Holiday Note To Self
Christmas is just around the corner, and with the economy the way it is and times only getting tougher, my gift list is pretty simple this year. The notes I wrote by many of my loved ones names say *buy pepper spray, or *buy stun gun. These are affordable gifts that will truly tell my friends and family that I love them and care about their safety.
If you have people you love on your holiday list, show them you care and make a note to yourself today.
Keep Them Guessing
I recently installed a fake security camera on my front porch, close to the front door of my house. My intentions were directed to a potential thief to deter a break in or other criminal activity. The results were very interesting. I have teenagers, and many friends coming and going, some late at night. I don’t mind because I know the kids and like them and trust them. I did get a kick out of the looks and comments of concern from some of these kids when they discovered the camera.
“Is that thing really recording?”
“Is it on all of the time?”
I like the added piece of mind knowing that more than just the criminals will be on their toes believing that they are being recorded. That was an added benefit to the already affordable fake security camera.
A Small Step Today
Even though you are rushing and thinking about a thousand things, Be aware of your surroundings and the people around you. If possible, park your car in an area of high pedestrian activity. Avoid remote areas.
Lock your car and close the windows, even if you are only gone for a few minutes.
Loose change is a meal for a street person; they will break the window even for small change left in sight.
Your cell phone can be sold and reprogrammed and is a sought after item of theft.
A laptop computer will keep a drug user high, at your expense.
Place your valuables in the trunk before you get to your destination, not after, the thief may be watching you.
Be sure and lock your car, many opportunists simply look for unlocked cars.
If waiting for a ride from a friend or public transportation, do so in busy, well-lit places.
Always report a theft to the police.
Buy pepper spray, a stun gun or a personal alarm to keep in your purse, glove box, or even your pocket.
Your personal security is ultimately up to you. A small step today can keep you safe later.
For all those new mothers out there with a million things to buy for their newborn, the baby shower is an opportunity for family and friends to offer a bit of assistance. Here are a few gift ideas to accompany the arrival of a new baby.
~Strollers; mom and dad will need this if they want their new baby to travel with them… which they will so they can visit all their friends and family.
~Baby Monitors; though the sleepless nights won’t end for some time, one of these is essential to keep an eye on the new baby throughout the night.
~Bibs; babies are notoriously messy, mom will need a lot of these.
~Clothing; you can never have too much clothing for a newborn, especially since they have a tendency to outgrow their old clothing in a few months!
When it comes to protecting your home and all your assets, there’s no such thing as being too careful. If you happen to own some valuable heirlooms, or objects of sentimental value, you will want to protect them as best you can. Keeping valuables in a top dresser drawer or semi-concealed location will not deter a burglar. These are professional thieves who probably have experience knowing where people hide their possessions.
For maintaining the security of your valuables, the best protection is a hidden safe or an entrenched combination safe. You don’t want a safe that can be carried out of the house, because a burglar will take it if they can hold it. Hidden safes will be passed over by a burglar, while an entrenched combination safe is impossible to remove from the wall without excessive effort and demolition which can arouse suspicion from people outside of the home.
Only Take What You Need
It seems we all carry alot of our personal possessions around with us these days. Cash , checkbooks, credit cards, personal organizers and mobile phones are just some of the everyday items that are sorely missed if they are lost or stolen. All of these things might seem invaluable, but according to the police the best advice for hanging on to your possessions is “only take what you need with you”.
Try to appear relaxed, but at the same time be aware of your surroundings. Pickpockets like busy streets and crowded places, and someone bumping into you could well be a thief. If this happens, check if you still have your things with you, but don’t make it too obvious that you’re doing this a thief might be watching and you are letting them know where all of your things are.
Also very important is to always carry your self defense device. Pepper spray, stun guns and personal alarms are all easy to use and safe.
FAKE SECURITY CAMERAS
Fake security cameras and dome cameras that are actually empty are an excellent way to keep criminals guessing without having to shell out a lot of money for a real security system.
Purchase your Fake (or Dummy) Security Cameras and place them anywhere to make people think that they are being watched. You should also consider placing a few Dome Cameras in high profile areas where you want to prevent problems.
This was an email sent to me:
Just last weekend on Friday night we parked in a public parking area. As we drove away I noticed a sticker on the rear window of the car. When I took it off after I got home, it was a receipt for gas. Luckily my friend had told me not to stop as it could be someone waiting for me to get out of the car. Then we received this email yesterday:

BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE–NEW WAY TO DO CARJACKINGS (NOT A JOKE)’
Heads up everyone! Please, keep this circulating… You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. You start the engine and shift into Reverse. When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into Park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car, that is when the car jackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically mow you down as they speed off in your car.
And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car. So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised!
BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.
Also always have your personal security self defense products at hand, at home, on you, and in your car. Stun guns, self defense pepper spray, and personal alarms are all safe and affordable options.
Phone Safety
Dealing with obscene or annoying phones calls - JUST HANG UP!
Do not carry on a conversation with a stranger.
Do not interview the caller to try to find out who he or she is.
Do not let your answering machine give you away, that you live alone or are not home.
Do not say your name on the answering machine.
Here is a suggested recorded message: “Your message is important to me, please leave your name and number”. This message does not indicate that you are alone or that no one is home.
Always have your personal security products with you at home and when out. Self defense pepper spray, personal alarms, and stun guns are all safe, convenient and affordable.
Never leave anything valuable on display, however small and insignificant it may seem.
Don’t leave anything loose on deck or in the cockpit .
Always take your ingine key with you, don’t leave it in the ignition.
Keep your boat keys and engine keys separate.
Keep your boat locked when no one is on board, even for a short time.
Use strong locks on all your hatches, and entry points.
It’s a good idea to have an alarm and use window stickers to say that you have one.
Make sure your cockpit lockers are locked, and check that your main hatch and fore-hatch are secure.
If you don’t think something is secure, get it fixed.
Always carry self defense products such as self defense pepper spray, a stun gun, personal alarms or a Taser.
Take steps today to improve your safety and security.
