Dummies Keep Costs Down
Fake security cameras are also used to augment real surveillance systems to increase the deterrent effect at a minimal additional cost. Many camera vendors offer fake or “dummy” cameras that look identical to the real ones they sell. A typical camera set up may include four real cameras and four dummies. The subjects being monitored are likely to assume that all of the cameras are real.

Fake Can Look Real
Since dummy cameras aka fake cameras are non-functional, they are generally used in environments where the only need for a security camera is to deter minor theft and vandalism, such as homes, small businesses, restaurants and convenience stores. Professional thieves have the experience to recognize a dummy camera, so they may not stop these people from acting.
The cheapest fake security cameras can be recognized by not having real lenses (the “lenses” are just an opaque piece of plastic), and just one cable, whereas the real cameras have one image cable and one power cable. Fake security cameras definately serve a purpose, but if you’re going to go with fake, don’t be a dummy, spend the few extra dollars and make sure it looks real.
A fake security camera, also known as a dummy camera, is a non-functional surveillance camera designed to fool intruders, or anyone who it is supposedly watching. These cameras are intentionally placed in obvious locations, so anyone coming near will notice them and believe the place to be monitored by CCTV. In many cases this is enough to stop a crime before it happens.
Planning for Personal Safety
This is not the world we grew up in. It is estimated that the world is experiencing four times the number of natural disasters with significantly greater loss than several decades ago. There are changing demographics and geo-political circumstances that should impact the ways and methods we use to evaluate our personal safety.
When planning for your own and your loved ones safety, take an educated view by answering the following questions:
1. What does the law allow me to do?
2. What legal obligations do I have?
3. Are there policies (in my work environment) that restrict my legal abilities?
4. What is it that I need to protect myself from?
5. Do I need to consider emergency planning in addition to self defense?
6. Have I identified my critical assets?
7. Do I need to purchase a handgun? Do I need to apply for a permit to carry? Note: statistically, it is much more likely you will lay your hands on someone using reasonable force than pointing a handgun at an adversary.
8. If I decide I need to learn self defense, the question is; What type of training will best serve an individual in regards to personal safety? Does the self defense program teach motor skills the average person can remember, and quickly perform, in unexpected situations, and when under high stress? (This is often referred to as the Fight or Flight Syndrome.) Or does it just focus on technique?

An Ounce of Prevention
Home video surveillance cameras come in different sizes and shapes. Some are obvious that they are there, which the intruder may see and change his mind about pursuing the house. Others are smaller and can be hidden in different areas that will aim towards the house. Some don’t look like cameras at all because the camera is hidden in a clock or a teddy bear. You can use these kind of hidden cameras anywhere and they are easy to move around as your needs change. Security cameras come either wireless, or with the wires. People usually prefer the wireless digital cameras since they do not have to run cables.
Once your home is installed with the video surveillance you will have peace of mind. You will have protection for yourself, your family, your pets, and of course your property. Don’t forget an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Always make sure to keep your doors locked and be aware of your surroundings.

Wesley Locklair says his whole world has been changed by one video tape. The first-time father, along with his wife, used a very thorough application process when they decided to find a nanny for their 5 month old daughter. They interviewed, checked references, even performed criminal background checks.
Their decision of 60-year-old Cheryl White seemed to be a good one. Locklair says the new nanny seemed sweet, almost grandmotherly towards the child when they were around. But, when the parents left it was a different scene. After seeing a report about nanny abuse on CNN last week, Locklair decided to set up a hidden camera in his own home just to be safe. It only took one day’s worth of taping for these parents to be shocked. Cheryl White can be seen shaking the baby in the air, jerking her around by her limbs, and tightly gripping the babies face. Locklair says he has turned the video over to police. White is facing child neglect charges.

As a business owner, I’m usually concerned about how my people perform their duties while I am away from the office. I think it is just fair enough for me to know if my employees are running my business just the way I asked them to.
With those things in mind, I’ve decided to install surveillance security cameras in my office; this way, it would be easier for me to keep track of my employees’ activities whether I am in or out of the office.
Currently, the rising of crimes being committed on a daily basis is alarming. It may be extremely impossible to totally eradicate such criminal incidents, but in this age of modern technology, we are not helpless anymore in protecting the safety of our family.
Home security systems somehow answer our worries in terms of securing our homes or even our offices. With these devices, we could achieve the peace of mind that we need knowing that our loved ones are safe and sound in the comfort of our own homes.
Need Evidence?
Home video surveillance used to be an expensive and time-consuming project — but not anymore! Away on vacation? At work while contractors are in your home? You can now access your webcam’s remote feed via an IP address to see that everything is safe and secure. Parents can check on their child’s nanny. Property owners can make sure their rental properties are safe and secure. Everyones needs are different. Some choose a full surveillance security camera system, others a hidden camera. No other method can give you the proof or evidence that a surveillance camera can.

Robberies Skyrocket!
Unfortunately violent crime is no longer just an issue with the poor and uneducated. It has extended to all walks of life, even well known media personalities, i.e., OJ Simpson, Robert Blake, Mike Tyson, just to name a few. An FBI report June 4, 2007, talks about today’s trend in violent crime,”crime is inching higher in the U.S.” The nation’s murder rate rose slightly last year but the number of robberies skyrocketed by 6 percent. The statistics were part of an overall 1.3 percent rise in violent crime across the country in 2006 - the second straight annual increase. Living in denial because of who you are or where you live isn’t going to make you any safer. Making a personal security plan to fit your individual situation is the answere. Learn about the many
self defense products that are available and plan ahead. It’s not a matter of living in fear, but more being realistic. Crime exists. If you are prepared, you can have peace of mind that you and your loved ones are safe.
